DuPont is located about 15 miles north of Olympia, WA (the state capitol) and about 20 miles south of Tacoma, WA along the I-5 corridor off Exits 118 and 119 adjacent to and minutes from Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Most of the residents are active duty military families, but sprinkled in and throughout the community you will find longtime residents who have been living in DuPont for decades.

In 1833 the Hudson’s Bay Company set up shop on the site in a trading post called Fort Nisqually and in time the town would host a major U.S. scientific expedition which is still landmarked today. In 1906, E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Co. acquired the property from a variety of owners and became the company town for The DuPont Company manufacturing dynamite and other explosives.

Today the City of DuPont is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as the only former company town in the state in which most of the homes maintain historic integrity.
